The course

Course description

This is a 4-lap anti clock-wise course. The start and finish are located on the field near the Hillhouse Drive gate, which is a few minutes’ walk from the car park and café. From the start, follow a grass-based sign-posted route before dropping down to the path with the lake on your left. Following the path with the blue railings, continue past the children’s playground and café (on your right), before turning left at the top of the hill towards the tennis courts. Then follow the signs (and marshal points) towards the Hillhouse Drive gate, and turn left after the final tree on the left-hand side of the path to complete the lap. At the start of lap 2, 3 and 4, continue straight ahead before, once again, turning left and dropping down to the lake side path. When completing the final lap, and after turning left at the ‘last tree’, peel off to the finish funnel.

On the course

The course is 5k long. The course is at Lake Meadows Park, Billericay. The course is run entirely on a mixture of differnent surfaces. Some sections of the course may accumulate mud, leaves and puddles after rain. Dependent on availability, marshals will be at key sections of the course, or signs will be in place.

Please remember that the parkrun uses shared paths. For the continued success of the event, please give way to other park users. This won't hurt your time, it won't stop you from getting a PB and it will make sure everyone continues to enjoy the event.

Please, wherever possible walk, jog, cycle or use public transport when attending the event. If you do have to drive, please consider car-sharing to reduce our impact on both the environment and other park users. Please also watch out for other park users when arriving and leaving. Parking may be limited so try to arrive early.

Facilities

The park has an excellent range of facilities including café, children’s play area, multi-sport arena, tennis courts, skate & BMX park, outdoor gym, Petanque Terrain and First Strokes Swimming Pool.

In addition, there is a male, female and standard disabled toilet block near to the cafe, plus a Changing Places toilet which contains an adult sized changing bench and ceiling tracked hoist.

More details

Public transport

Billericay rail station (Greater Anglia London Liverpool Street - Southend Victoria line) is co-located with the town’s bus inter-change, both within 5 minutes’ walk of the main park entrance.

On foot

The park has five points of access. The main entrance and only access point to the park's car park is via Radford Crescent. Pedestrian / cycle access is also available via the following residential roads surrounding the park: Lake Avenue, Hillhouse Drive, Perry Street and Knightbridge Walk. The gathering point for the event is on the large field nearest to the Hillhouse Drive gate.

By road

Lake Meadows Park is situated in the heart of Billericay accessed via Radford Crescent. If using SATNAV, the nearest postcode is CM12 0BW. The town lies between the A12 and A13 arterial roads and is approximately 9 miles (14.5 km) east of the M25 (nearest junctions J28 or J29).

Parking is available in the Lake Meadows Park (CM12 0BW) and nearby Radford Crescent Council (CM12 0DU) car parks which are FREE on Saturdays and Sundays. The park car park usually gets very busy, so if you are able to arrive by other means or able to share with others, this will certainly help.

Your best bet may well be to try the Radford Crescent car park first which is adjacent to the main park entrance. If you do travel by car and wherever you park, please do so with care and consideration for others. The nearest alternative option is the large Billericay Railway Station NCP car park - 5 minutes walk to the park at CM12 0BP. Please check local notices regarding charges.

Course safety

Billericay parkrun is a fun, free event organised by volunteers for the benefit of everyone. We wish to make the event as safe as possible, so participants, spectators and helpers are asked to take care about the following:

  • Please be considerate to the park and other park users at all times.
  • Children under the age of eleven must be accompanied (within arm's reach) throughout the event by a parent, guardian or appropriate adult of the parent's choice.
  • Please arrive by foot, by pedal-power or by public transport if you can - your efforts help to reduce our impact on the park and the planet.
  • We invite everyone to consider volunteering at parkrun. Your support helps your parkrun events remain sustainable and free for all in your community, and it’s also a wonderful way to improve your own health and happiness. Please visit the volunteer page for more information.
  • Take care near roads and car parks – some vehicles drive very quickly. Please congregate away from the cars and be careful in particular if you have children. If you’re driving to the event, please drive carefully.
  • Take care on uneven surfaces – whether on grass or on tarmac. Watch out for cyclists, other participants, pedestrians, children, dogs, wildlife, park animals, vehicles, park maintenance work, falling branches, bollards, posts and other obstacles around the course.
  • Please ensure that you are fit enough to walk, jog, run 5k (3.1 miles) with us.
  • If you see someone with a serious problem, please stop to help them out and get help as soon as possible.
  • If you’re watching, keep clear of participants on the course, and look after any children and dogs you may have with you.
  • It is not permitted to run with a pushchair and a dog at the same time.
  • Lyme Disease is a bacterial infection spread to humans by infected ticks. Consider protecting yourself by wearing repellent when at parkrun events in grassy or wooded areas. See lymediseaseuk.com for further details.
  • You are welcome to take part with one dog by your side, within reach at all times, on a short, handheld, non-extendable lead. The use of waist harnesses is prohibited. Please also see this Support Site entry for further details about parkrunning with dogs.
  • parkrunners pushing buggies are welcome, but please take care of others around you and do your best to start at an appropriate place in the field for your pace.

We hope these tips help to ensure that Billericay parkrun is fun and safe for everyone.
