The course
Course description
Starting on the footpath to the east of the Pembroke Bay car parks, this is a gently undulating and scenic two lap course.
The first section from the Start to the lower footpath at L’Ancresse is two-way, so it is important to keep to the left-hand side of the footpath to avoid collisions. The course then follows a clockwise route, initially on the coastal path.
Follow the coastal path for 0.8km to Stonecrusher before crossing to a grass track. Head up a gentle hill, turning left at the top past the WWII German bunker and left again to rejoin the footpath. Next, a right turn takes you onto another grass track which sweeps around La Fontenelle, giving a further chance to enjoy the sea views. The route then turns left, re-joining the footpath, crossing Longree before making a wide sweep over the Common with amazing views over L’Ancresse and Pembroke Bays, before dropping down, back to the two-way section.
Follow the coastal footpath once more, this time in the opposite direction, approaching the turnaround marker, which is clearly signposted, from left to right, for the second loop. Please stay on the left hand side of all paths and tracks to ensure you are in position to make the required turns and to allow others to pass safely.
After the second lap, continue to the finish through the finishing funnel which will be clearly marked and where the team will be ready to greet you.
On the course
The course is 5k long. The course is at Pembroke Bay, Vale, Guernsey. The course is run on a mixture of compacted stone-dust paths and grass tracks. Some sections of the course may accumulate mud, leaves and puddles after rain. Dependent on availability, marshals will be at key sections of the course, or signs will be in place.
Please remember that the parkrun uses shared paths. For the continued success of the event, please give way to other park users. This won't hurt your time, it won't stop you from getting a PB and it will make sure everyone continues to enjoy the event.
Please, wherever possible walk, jog, cycle or use public transport when attending the event. If you do have to drive, please consider car-sharing to reduce our impact on both the environment and other park users. Please also watch out for other park users when arriving and leaving. Parking may be limited so try to arrive early.
Facilities
The café at The Beach House is open from 9am on Saturdays. Public toilets are available, which have disabled access.

Course safety
Guernsey parkrun is a fun, free event organised by volunteers for the benefit of everyone. We wish to make the event as safe as possible, so participants, spectators and helpers are asked to take care about the following:
- Please be considerate to the park and other park users at all times.
- Children under the age of eleven must be accompanied (within arm's reach) throughout the event by a parent, guardian or appropriate adult of the parent's choice.
- Please arrive by foot, by pedal-power or by public transport if you can - your efforts help to reduce our impact on the park and the planet.
- We invite everyone to consider volunteering at parkrun. Your support helps your parkrun events remain sustainable and free for all in your community, and it’s also a wonderful way to improve your own health and happiness. Please visit the volunteer page for more information.
- Take care near roads and car parks – some vehicles drive very quickly. Please congregate away from the cars and be careful in particular if you have children. If you’re driving to the event, please drive carefully.
- Take care on uneven surfaces – whether on grass or on tarmac. Watch out for cyclists, other participants, pedestrians, children, dogs, wildlife, park animals, vehicles, park maintenance work, falling branches, bollards, posts and other obstacles around the course.
- Please ensure that you are fit enough to walk, jog, run 5k (3.1 miles) with us.
- If you see someone with a serious problem, please stop to help them out and get help as soon as possible.
- If you’re watching, keep clear of participants on the course, and look after any children and dogs you may have with you.
- You are welcome to take part with one dog by your side, within reach at all times, on a short, handheld, non-extendable lead. The use of waist harnesses is prohibited. Please also see this Support Site entry for further details about parkrunning with dogs.
- Our course is marked with directional arrows to guide you; please be alert for these as there are several turns. Please read the course description carefully. In addition, marshals will be out on the course when available, to assist and direct you. They are there to ensure your safety so please pay close attention to their instructions.
- Caterpillars of the brown-tailed moth are present in coastal areas, particularly in May and June and can cause skin irritation if hairs from the caterpillars come into contact with skin. The area is treated regularly to keep the caterpillar population at bay, but please seek medical advice if you notice a skin rash.
- We share the Common on a Saturday with the Guernsey Rifle Club and other rifle range users. Red flags will be flying when the range is in use. Our course has been approved by the club; it does not encroach on any restricted area and is absolutely safe for participants. Do not be alarmed if you hear rifle shots during the event.
- A short section at the start/finish of our course runs adjacent to L’Ancresse golf course. Please be alert for golfers on the course shouting "fore" as there is a possibility a wayward golf ball may carry across the Common close to the public footpath.
- When running, take care on uneven surfaces, whether on grass or on footpaths. Watch out for cyclists, other runners, pedestrians, children, dogs, wildlife, vehicles, maintenance work, pebbles, rabbit holes, brambles, bollards, posts and other obstacles around the course.
- Unfortunately, our course is not suitable for runners pushing buggies or wheel chair users as some sections are narrow and are over uneven terrain.
We hope these tips help to ensure that Guernsey parkrun is fun and safe for everyone.
