The course
Course description
The course is 2.5 flat, clockwise laps of the school playing field and War Memorial Park and run almost entirely on grass. The start and finish are on the school playing field.
Please avoid walking / running on the two football pitches at the south of the school playing field.
Unfortunately dogs are not allowed at this event.
On the course
The course is 5k long. The course is at North Walsham High School and Sports Centre, North Walsham. The course is run entirely on grass. Some sections of the course may accumulate mud, leaves and puddles after rain. Dependent on availability, marshals will be at key sections of the course, or signs will be in place.
Please remember that the parkrun uses shared paths. For the continued success of the event, please give way to other park users. This won't hurt your time, it won't stop you from getting a PB and it will make sure everyone continues to enjoy the event.
Please, wherever possible walk, jog, cycle or use public transport when attending the event. If you do have to drive, please consider car-sharing to reduce our impact on both the environment and other park users. Please also watch out for other park users when arriving and leaving. Parking may be limited so try to arrive early.
Facilities
Toilets, changing and shower facilities are available at the North Walsham Sports Centre. Toilets are also available in the New Road car park.
More details
Public transport
Bus: Numerous bus services from Norwich, Great Yarmouth, Aylsham, Cromer, etc. stop outside the Post Office on Yarmouth Road and the Library on New Road, the two stops closest to the parkrun. Please see the Bus Times website for the latest timetables.
Train: North Walsham train station is served by trains from Norwich to the south and Sheringham to the north. The station is a short walk (less than 1km) from parkrun. Leave the station and turn right onto the Norwich Road. Use the light controlled crossing to cross the A149 and continue on the Norwich Road to Grammar School Road and the junction of Yarmouth Road. Cross the Yarmouth Road and walk through the Lidl car park into the Memorial Park. Then follow the directions in ‘Getting there on foot’. Please see the National Rail website for the latest timetables.
On foot
From North Walsham town centre, walk through the Memorial Park and exit onto the Happisburgh Road. Turn right and follow the Happisburgh Road for 100m until you reach Spenser Avenue on your right. North Walsham High School and Sports Centre is the first right off Spenser Avenue. The event briefing and start is accessed via the gate to the right of the school.
By road
Drive into North Walsham on the B1150 Norwich Road (which bisects the A149 Yarmouth Road / Cromer Road and can be accessed from the B1145 Aylsham Road via Station Road). At the mini-roundabout after the A149 junction, go straight over onto Grammar School Road (Bank Loke car park is to your left). At the mini-roundabout opposite Lidl, turn left onto the Yarmouth Road and follow the road round the right hand bend, where it becomes New Road, past the Post Office and fire station (with the car park on your right).
Parking is available in the town centre and is 0.75km from the course. The closest Pay & Display car parks (8am to 6pm: £1 for the first 2 hours then 70p per additional hour) are at Bank Loke (postcode for Satnav - NR28 9JN) and New Road (postcode for Satnav - NR28 9DE).
The Lidl car park is private land. It is for use by the shop’s customers and should not be used by those attending parkrun. ANPR is in place to monitor usage and apply parking charges.
Please help us to maintain excellent relationships with our neighbours, local residents and the landowners by not parking on local roads nor in the Sports Centre car park.

Course safety
North Walsham parkrun is a fun, free event organised by volunteers for the benefit of everyone. We wish to make the event as safe as possible, so participants, spectators and helpers are asked to take care about the following:
- Please be considerate to the park and other park users at all times.
- Children under the age of eleven must be accompanied (within arm's reach) throughout the event by a parent, guardian or appropriate adult of the parent's choice.
- Please arrive by foot, by pedal-power or by public transport if you can - your efforts help to reduce our impact on the park and the planet.
- We invite everyone to consider volunteering at parkrun. Your support helps your parkrun events remain sustainable and free for all in your community, and it’s also a wonderful way to improve your own health and happiness. Please visit the volunteer page for more information.
- Take care near roads and car parks – some vehicles drive very quickly. Please congregate away from the cars and be careful in particular if you have children. If you’re driving to the event, please drive carefully.
- Take care on uneven surfaces – whether on grass or on tarmac. Watch out for cyclists, other participants, pedestrians, children, dogs, wildlife, park animals, vehicles, park maintenance work, falling branches, bollards, posts and other obstacles around the course.
- Please ensure that you are fit enough to walk, jog, run 5k (3.1 miles) with us.
- If you see someone with a serious problem, please stop to help them out and get help as soon as possible.
- If you’re watching, keep clear of participants on the course, and look after any children and dogs you may have with you.
- Lyme Disease is a bacterial infection spread to humans by infected ticks. Consider protecting yourself by wearing repellent when at parkrun events in grassy or wooded areas. See lymediseaseuk.com for further details.
- Unfortunately dogs are not allowed at this event.
The only exception to this rule is when accompanied by an assistance dog. - parkrunners pushing buggies are welcome, but please take care of others around you and do your best to start at an appropriate place in the field for your pace.
We hope these tips help to ensure that North Walsham parkrun is fun and safe for everyone.
