The course
Course description
The start line is on the main promenade, close to the lodge. The course then begins by heading along the full length of the promenade, before doing a 180' turn and returning along the promenade in the opposite direction. Two right turns at the end of the promenade will then take you alongside the cricket pitch and café. A right turn just before the cricket pavilion will then take you out onto the nature trail. Follow the nature trail til the far end passing either side of the staircase, where a hairpin turn will take you back in the opposite direction, along the bottom of the houses.
Then cross over the short grass section past the goalposts, and turn left up the snicket. Follow the signs through the snicket, and then follow the path around the top of the park. A right turn will then bring you back out onto the promenade. That is your first lap completed.
Complete a second lap, but this time a right turn three quarters of the way along the path after the snicket will take you to the finish line.
On the course
The course is 5k long. The course is at Roberts Park, Baildon. The course is run on a mixture of tarmac paths, trail paths and grass. Some sections of the course may accumulate mud, leaves and puddles after rain. Dependent on availability, marshals will be at key sections of the course, or signs will be in place.
Please remember that the parkrun uses shared paths. For the continued success of the event, please give way to other park users. This won't hurt your time, it won't stop you from getting a PB and it will make sure everyone continues to enjoy the event.
Please, wherever possible walk, jog, cycle or use public transport when attending the event. If you do have to drive, please consider car-sharing to reduce our impact on both the environment and other park users. Please also watch out for other park users when arriving and leaving. Parking may be limited so try to arrive early.
Facilities
There are public toilets in the park located next to the Half Moon Café. These open at 7:30. There are also toilets in the Half Moon Café. These open at 8am.
More details
Public transport
Bus: There are frequent bus services to Saltaire and the park.
The 662, 60, 622, 676 and 821 services stop at Saltaire Roundabout which is a five to ten minute (downhill) walk to the start.
The 676 and 678 services stop on Saltaire Road at the junction of Victoria Road, which is a five-minute (downhill) walk to the start.
The 626 and 675 services stop on Coach Road which is a two-minute walk from the start.
Train: Saltaire railway station is a five-minute walk away from the start line. Come out of the station and turn right, heading down Victoria Road. Walk down past the Boathouse Inn and cross the bridge over the River Aire. Follow the path up the hill taking the second left hand turn and you will be on the main Promenade from where we start. The station is served by trains from Bradford, Leeds and Skipton on a half-hourly basis for each destination.
On foot
The Park is just a one mile walk from Shipley town centre and can be accessed from the canal towpath as well as by walking along either Coach Road or Saltaire Road. The Leeds Liverpool canal is perfect for people wishing to cycle from other towns, such as Bingley, in the Aire Valley. At the Victoria Road Bridge exit of the canal, simply go down past the Boathouse Inn and walk up the hill, taking the second left, and then you are on the main Promenade where we start.
By road
The best postcode for the park is BD17 7LU.
The park is in an unusual position in that it is perfectly accessible from two different sides. The main car parks are off Coach Road. There is a small car park directly outside the Coach Road entrance, and a larger one off Higher Coach Road, just before Titus Salt School. Both of these car parks are free to use.
On the other side of the park you can park in the Exhibition Road car park and walk down, however, there may be a charge to park at this location

Course safety
Roberts Park parkrun is a fun, free event organised by volunteers for the benefit of everyone. We wish to make the event as safe as possible, so participants, spectators and helpers are asked to take care about the following:
- Please be considerate to the park and other park users at all times.
- Children under the age of eleven must be accompanied (within arm's reach) throughout the event by a parent, guardian or appropriate adult of the parent's choice.
- Please arrive by foot, by pedal-power or by public transport if you can - your efforts help to reduce our impact on the park and the planet.
- We invite everyone to consider volunteering at parkrun. Your support helps your parkrun events remain sustainable and free for all in your community, and it’s also a wonderful way to improve your own health and happiness. Please visit the volunteer page for more information.
- Take care near roads and car parks – some vehicles drive very quickly. Please congregate away from the cars and be careful in particular if you have children. If you’re driving to the event, please drive carefully.
- Take care on uneven surfaces – whether on grass or on tarmac. Watch out for cyclists, other participants, pedestrians, children, dogs, wildlife, park animals, vehicles, park maintenance work, falling branches, bollards, posts and other obstacles around the course.
- Please ensure that you are fit enough to walk, jog, run 5k (3.1 miles) with us.
- If you see someone with a serious problem, please stop to help them out and get help as soon as possible.
- If you’re watching, keep clear of participants on the course, and look after any children and dogs you may have with you.
- It is not permitted to run with a pushchair and a dog at the same time.
- Lyme Disease is a bacterial infection spread to humans by infected ticks. Consider protecting yourself by wearing repellent when at parkrun events in grassy or wooded areas. See lymediseaseuk.com for further details.
- You are welcome to take part with one dog by your side, within reach at all times, on a short, handheld, non-extendable lead. The use of waist harnesses is prohibited. Please also see this Support Site entry for further details about parkrunning with dogs.
- parkrunners pushing buggies are welcome, but please take care of others around you and do your best to start at an appropriate place in the field for your pace.
We hope these tips help to ensure that Roberts Park parkrun is fun and safe for everyone.
