The course
Course description
The event takes place on the Thames Path between Woolwich Arsenal Pier and Gallions Reach Park.
The course starts on the lower Thames Path level with the long abandoned T-Jetty (w3w: ///jumps.seats.sits) heading east before entering Gallions Reach Park. The start of the course is a 5 minute walk from the meeting point in James Clavell Square.
In Gallions Reach Park head up to the turnaround point on the top of the mound. Retrace your route back down the mound and out of the park heading west along the upper Thames Path, finishing at Woolwich Arsenal Pier.
The route is on paved, tarmac and mud paths.
As much of the course is ‘out and back’ participants are advised to keep to the left hand side of the paths.
Please note whilst single buggies are welcome we are unable to accommodate double buggies.
On the course
The course is 5k long. The course is at Thames Path, Woolwich. The course is run on a mixture of permanent paths and trail paths. Some sections of the course may accumulate mud, leaves and puddles after rain. Dependent on availability, marshals will be at key sections of the course, or signs will be in place.
Please remember that the parkrun uses shared paths. For the continued success of the event, please give way to other park users. This won't hurt your time, it won't stop you from getting a PB and it will make sure everyone continues to enjoy the event.
Please, wherever possible walk, jog, cycle or use public transport when attending the event. If you do have to drive, please consider car-sharing to reduce our impact on both the environment and other park users. Please also watch out for other park users when arriving and leaving. Parking may be limited so try to arrive early.
Facilities
Toilets are available at Woolwich Works from 8.30 am. Please use the brown door with the red cafe banners either side, nearest to the statues, if you would like to access the toilets before 9.00 am.
More details
Public transport
Bus: 17 bus routes converge on Woolwich and are 5-10 minute walks to the start.
Train: The closest station is Woolwich for the Elizabeth Line - under 5 minutes from the start. Woolwich Arsenal DLR and mainline stations are a 5-minute walk.
Thames Clipper: Thames Clippers Woolwich (Royal Arsenal) Pier is right beside the finish, the only boat that arrives in time for parkrun is from Barking Riverside, but it would be a nice way to return to central London after parkrun.
Plane: London City Airport is two stops from Woolwich Arsenal on the DLR.
Cycleway: Cycleway 14 passes the start and finish of the parkrun. There are cycle racks by the finish and outside the Elizabeth Line station.
On foot
We congregate near the finish in James Clavell Square; follow signs to Woolwich Royal Arsenal Pier from central Woolwich or ask for the Pier or statues.
The Woolwich Foot Tunnel is a 5-minute walk from the start - please push bikes through the foot tunnel.
By road
Woolwich is on the South Circular and easily accessible from south of the Thames. If coming from the north please do not rely on the Woolwich Ferry, either cross at the Blackwall Tunnel or Dartford Crossings or park on the north bank of the Thames (see below) and use the foot tunnel.
Woolwich is inside the ULEZ charging zone, please pay online.
There is no on-road parking on the Royal Arsenal development. Please use one of the car parks listed on this page.
Parking: There is no on-road parking on the Royal Arsenal development, parking attendants patrol regularly.
There are no ideal options for parking. Whilst there are some car parks close to the start we are in a town centre and they are small, often fairly full before parkrunners arrive and so have few spaces after 8.30am.
We strongly suggest you use the Woolwich Tescos car park which is often empty on the second floor. The Tesco postcode will take you to the wrong side of the block, so put in SE18 6EF, from which the largest Tesco in Europe is very obvious! Tesco allows 3 hours of free parking. But please note it is a 10-15 minute walk to the area we congregate and a further 5 minutes to the start.
If you are coming from the North please note that the Woolwich Ferry is often closed at weekends, but you can park on the north bank and use the Woolwich Foot Tunnel. Allow plenty of time, it is rare both tunnel lifts work. You can pay and park in Store Road E16 2GN using the pay-by-phone app.
Coffee
Every week we grab a post-parkrun coffee: the Visitors Book Cafe, inside Woolwich Works. Please come and join us!
