The course
Course description
The route consists of three laps of Victoria Park. It is scenic (around a pond with Mute Swans, Coots, Moorhens, Tufted Ducks & more) reasonably flat and with no real hills - only one slight incline! It is designed to be enjoyable, rather than for pure speed, and is all on tarmac paths.
From the start near the main gates on Victoria Park Drive North the course bears left at the bottom of the main avenue of trees and goes through the formal gardens and around the boating pond. The route continues west along the path near the park perimeter towards the Fossil Grove and along the narrow crazy paved path which runs parallel with the dual carriageway. It then turns right, up a slight incline and at the top of the incline the course turns right and back in an easterly direction towards the main avenue of trees. Once there that’s the first lap done. Repeat this twice. The final lap of the course turns left just before the formal gardens and then winds round again to the left to finish on the straight on the park perimeter near the start.
On the course
The course is 5k long. The course is in Victoria Park, Glasgow. The course is run entirely on tarmac paths. Some sections of the course may accumulate mud, leaves and puddles after rain. Dependent on availability, marshals will be at key sections of the course, or signs will be in place.
Please remember that the parkrun uses shared paths. For the continued success of the event, please give way to other park users. This won't hurt your time, it won't stop you from getting a PB and it will make sure everyone continues to enjoy the event.
Please, wherever possible walk, jog, cycle or use public transport when attending the event. If you do have to drive, please consider car-sharing to reduce our impact on both the environment and other park users. Please also watch out for other park users when arriving and leaving. Parking may be limited so try to arrive early.
Facilities
Toilets are usually available in the park at the west end of the boating pond, however these do not open until 10am. Toilets can also be found in Scotstoun Sports Centre at 72 Danes Drive, G14 9HD which is approximately 1K from the start line. We advise runners to arrive in plenty of time and incorporate the trip in their warm-up run.
