The course

Course description

The course is three loops taking in the Lower Road and middle path and a tiny amount of South Terrace Road.

Starting at the Petanque Terrain which is close to the entrance to the cricket and football club on the Lower Road. Head approx 600m south west up a gentle gradient on Lower Road and turn right up a steep, tarmacked hill for about 50m. We then turn right on to Middle path which is a gravel path and can be very muddy, but is a gentle down hill for a bit over 700m where we meet Alexandra Palace Way and continue down it for about 80m. Take a tight U turn back on to Lower Road where the gentle uphill gradient starts again, about 200m later you will see the start finish line. Repeat this two more times and you will have completed the Ally Pally parkrun.

On the course

The course is 5k long. The course is in Alexandra Park, London. The course is run on a mixture of gravel paths and trail paths. Some sections of the course may accumulate mud, leaves and puddles after rain. Dependent on availability, marshals will be at key sections of the course, or signs will be in place.

Please remember that the parkrun uses shared paths. For the continued success of the event, please give way to other park users. This won't hurt your time, it won't stop you from getting a PB and it will make sure everyone continues to enjoy the event.

Please, wherever possible walk, jog, cycle or use public transport when attending the event. If you do have to drive, please consider car-sharing to reduce our impact on both the environment and other park users. Please also watch out for other park users when arriving and leaving. Parking may be limited so try to arrive early.

Facilities

There are toilets at the Football and Cricket club about two mins walk from the start finish area. If you use their facilities please try and support the club with a small purchase of a beverage or treat.

Please give yourself about 10 minutes to walk to our start finish line. You will need to walk down the hill on a road called Alexandra Palace Way in the direction Alexandra Palace Station as you walk down the hill you will pass the pitch a putt course on you right, about 200-ish metres down the hill you will see a small vehicle entrance to the football and cricket club, walk through this and the start/finish line is about 100 metres down this path.

Course safety

Ally Pally parkrun is a fun, free event organised by volunteers for the benefit of everyone. We wish to make the event as safe as possible, so participants, spectators and helpers are asked to take care about the following:

  • Please be considerate to the park and other park users at all times.
  • Children under the age of eleven must be accompanied (within arm's reach) throughout the event by a parent, guardian or appropriate adult of the parent's choice.
  • Please arrive by foot, by pedal-power or by public transport if you can - your efforts help to reduce our impact on the park and the planet.
  • We invite everyone to consider volunteering at parkrun. Your support helps your parkrun events remain sustainable and free for all in your community, and it’s also a wonderful way to improve your own health and happiness. Please visit the volunteer page for more information.
  • Take care near roads and car parks – some vehicles drive very quickly. Please congregate away from the cars and be careful in particular if you have children. If you’re driving to the event, please drive carefully.
  • Take care on uneven surfaces – whether on grass or on tarmac. Watch out for cyclists, other participants, pedestrians, children, dogs, wildlife, park animals, vehicles, park maintenance work, falling branches, bollards, posts and other obstacles around the course.
  • Please ensure that you are fit enough to walk, jog, run 5k (3.1 miles) with us.
  • If you see someone with a serious problem, please stop to help them out and get help as soon as possible.
  • If you’re watching, keep clear of participants on the course, and look after any children and dogs you may have with you.
  • It is not permitted to run with a pushchair and a dog at the same time.
  • Lyme Disease is a bacterial infection spread to humans by infected ticks. Consider protecting yourself by wearing repellent when at parkrun events in grassy or wooded areas. See lymediseaseuk.com for further details.
  • You are welcome to take part with one dog by your side, within reach at all times, on a short, handheld, non-extendable lead. The use of waist harnesses is prohibited. Please also see this Support Site entry for further details about parkrunning with dogs.
  • parkrunners pushing buggies are welcome, but please take care of others around you and do your best to start at an appropriate place in the field for your pace.

We hope these tips help to ensure that Ally Pally parkrun is fun and safe for everyone.

By rail or underground:

Alexandra Palace has its own rail station, called Alexandra Palace Station. It is on the Great Northern Route that forms part of the East Coast Main Line. The station is about seven minutes walk from the start/finish line. Exit the station by taking the pedestrian bridge crossing over the train tracks, you should find yourself on Bedford Rd. If you look to your left you will see a small lay-by and just beyond that a vehicular entrance to the park as the road becomes Alexandra Palace Way. Walk directly through that entrance and continue for about 150 metres and you will find another small lay-by type area. This is the start/finish line.

The nearest tube station is Wood Green. Please allow about 25 to 30 minutes to walk to the start line. Leave the station and cross the road to find yourself on Station Road. Follow Station Road until you come to a small roundabout and continue straight through it. You should now have a small park on your left and St Paul's church on your right. You should see another small roundabout in the distance and should continue straight on until you see Alexandra Palace Station. You will find a pedestrian bridge that crosses over the railway tracks. Use the bridge and you will find yourself on Bedford Rd. If you look to your left you will see a small lay-by and just beyond that a vehicular entrance to the park, as the road becomes Alexandra Palace Way. Walk directly through that entrance and continue for about 150 metres and you will find another small lay-by type area. This is the start/finish line.
