The course

Course description

The course is three figure-of-eight laps of Ward Park on tarmac paths, starting in front of the War Memorial on the main thoroughfare. About 300 metres after the start, the course takes a left turn and follows the duckpond until it crosses the second wooden bridge. Keeping to the right, the course continues up the side of the tennis courts and then turns sharply left. It continues up a gentle, tree-lined hill, turning left at the top, and back down towards the duck pond where it takes a right turn. The course continues alongside the duck pond, past the playground and takes a sharp left turn across the stone bridge. Continuing straight on, the course returns to the main thoroughfare, which is split into a contraflow by a line of cones at which participants keep to the left. At the end of the cones the course takes a left turn towards the duck ponds, returning to the main thoroughfare via a sharp right turn at the crossroads at the top of a short hill. Keeping to the left-hand side of the cones on the main thoroughfare, the course continues past the War Memorial and turns left at the rose pergola. The cannon, flower beds and bowling greens are kept on the left, and then at the end of the flower beds the course takes a sharp left turn and continues past the front of the bowling pavilion. After passing the bowling greens, the course takes a sharp right turn at the crossroads and re-joins the main thoroughfare for the start of laps two and three. At the end of the third lap there is no left turn at the end of the flower beds - the finish funnel is straight ahead.

On the course

The course is 5k long. The course is in Ward Park, Bangor. The course is run entirely on bitmac paths. Some sections of the course may accumulate mud, leaves and puddles after rain. Dependent on availability, marshals will be at key sections of the course, or signs will be in place.

Please remember that the parkrun uses shared paths. For the continued success of the event, please give way to other park users. This won't hurt your time, it won't stop you from getting a PB and it will make sure everyone continues to enjoy the event.

Please, wherever possible walk, jog, cycle or use public transport when attending the event. If you do have to drive, please consider car-sharing to reduce our impact on both the environment and other park users. Please also watch out for other park users when arriving and leaving. Parking may be limited so try to arrive early.

Facilities

Public toilets are available beside the Bowling Pavilion plus there is a covered area in front of the Pavilion where running kit can be left.
