The course
Course description
This event takes place in the award winning Stanley Park. It’s an almost two lap, anti-clockwise course that is mainly flat. The course is run on a mixture of tarmac, gravel and trail paths. Some sections of the course may accumulate mud, leaves and puddles after rain.
The route starts on the tarmac path south of the clock tower between the netball courts and all weather football pitches. The actual start is parallel to the middle of three floodlights on the left. After the start the route takes the first path on the left. It then turns left adjacent to a black bin and passes by the BMX track which will be on your right. Follow the path towards the model village before exiting the park to turn left along the footpath of East Park Drive.
At the next entrance to the park we re-enter the park and make an immediate right turn onto the woodland trail which is twisty and in places narrow. We follow the lakeside shore for a while before making a right and left turn to take us away from the shore. Eventually the route re-joins the network of tarmac paths. Take the second path on the right and heads towards the crazy golf course. The course turns left here and makes a short descent to follow the Lakeside Promenade towards the bandstand.
The route goes left across the front of the bandstand and up the gravel slope on the right. Here it continues around on the first path to the right. When you catch sight of the rose garden on your left take the sharp turn to the left then turn sharp right to follow the right hand outer path of the rose garden with tennis courts on your right. At the pavillion turn right towards the clock tower. At the clock tower turn left and cross the start line to commence the second lap which is the same as the first lap until you reach the rose garden for the second time. To finish you follow the centre path in the rose garden. The course ends in-between the first two bushes in the garden.
On the course
The course is 5k long. The course is in Stanley Park, Blackpool. The course is run on a mixture of tarmac paths, gravel paths and trail paths. Some sections of the course may accumulate mud, leaves and puddles after rain. Dependent on availability, marshals will be at key sections of the course, or signs will be in place.
Please remember that the parkrun uses shared paths. For the continued success of the event, please give way to other park users. This won't hurt your time, it won't stop you from getting a PB and it will make sure everyone continues to enjoy the event.
Please, wherever possible walk, jog, cycle or use public transport when attending the event. If you do have to drive, please consider car-sharing to reduce our impact on both the environment and other park users. Please also watch out for other park users when arriving and leaving. Parking may be limited so try to arrive early.
Facilities
Toilets are available from dawn til dusk by the Art Deco Café 40 pence by card or cash. Showers are available at Blackpool Sports Centre, £4 per person.
More details
Public transport
Blackpool is served by National Rail at Blackpool North & South stations. The only bus service to serve Stanley Park is service 18. This is a realistic option from South Station, South Shore, Squires Gate and Mereside. However this bus takes such a circuitous route from the town centre that it would be preferable to use bus services 4, 18 & 61. These serve Whitegate Drive which is about 10 minutes stroll from the start. Alight at the Condor Grove stop and walk down Knowsley Avenue then Kenwyn Avenue. You'll see the clock tower as you approach the park.
Both services 4 & 18 are operated by Blackpool transport.
Service 61 is operated by Stagecoach.
On foot
Stanley Park is situated in the east of the town approximately 1.5 miles, 30 minutes walk from Central Promenade. Foot and cycle paths are marked from Central Pier and St Chads Road.
By road
From the M55 follow the signs for the Zoo, Model Village and Stanley Park. On leaving the motorway follow Preston New Road, South Park Drive and West Park Drive.
There is ample free parking available at Blackpool Sports Centre, FY3 9HQ. Access the park from the side gate close to the sports centre.

Course safety
Blackpool parkrun is a fun, free event organised by volunteers for the benefit of everyone. We wish to make the event as safe as possible, so participants, spectators and helpers are asked to take care about the following:
- Please be considerate to the park and other park users at all times.
- Children under the age of eleven must be accompanied (within arm's reach) throughout the event by a parent, guardian or appropriate adult of the parent's choice.
- Please arrive by foot, by pedal-power or by public transport if you can - your efforts help to reduce our impact on the park and the planet.
- We invite everyone to consider volunteering at parkrun. Your support helps your parkrun events remain sustainable and free for all in your community, and it’s also a wonderful way to improve your own health and happiness. Please visit the volunteer page for more information.
- Take care near roads and car parks – some vehicles drive very quickly. Please congregate away from the cars and be careful in particular if you have children. If you’re driving to the event, please drive carefully.
- Take care on uneven surfaces – whether on grass or on tarmac. Watch out for cyclists, other participants, pedestrians, children, dogs, wildlife, park animals, vehicles, park maintenance work, falling branches, bollards, posts and other obstacles around the course.
- Please ensure that you are fit enough to walk, jog, run 5k (3.1 miles) with us.
- If you see someone with a serious problem, please stop to help them out and get help as soon as possible.
- If you’re watching, keep clear of participants on the course, and look after any children and dogs you may have with you.
- It is not permitted to run with a pushchair and a dog at the same time.
- Lyme Disease is a bacterial infection spread to humans by infected ticks. Consider protecting yourself by wearing repellent when at parkrun events in grassy or wooded areas. See lymediseaseuk.com for further details.
- You are welcome to take part with one dog by your side, within reach at all times, on a short, handheld, non-extendable lead. The use of waist harnesses is prohibited. Please also see this Support Site entry for further details about parkrunning with dogs.
- parkrunners pushing buggies are welcome, but please take care of others around you and do your best to start at an appropriate place in the field for your pace.
We hope these tips help to ensure that Blackpool parkrun is fun and safe for everyone.
