The course
Course description
The 2.5 lap anti-clockwise course is run primarily on tarmac paths, aside from the start and finish funnel which is on grass. Shepherds Rd is the nearest entrance to the start with the start line itself located a little further down the hill from the basket-ball & tennis courts. The finish is near the bandstand.
The course starts on the grass, with a short uphill run to join shared-use path. The route continues past the Cha Café to Rickmansworth Road before heading down a straight stretch ‘central avenue’, with a sharp left turn at the bottom that will take participants back past the start. This lap is completed a second time, and then on the third lap finish is near the bandstand.
On the course
The course is 5k long. The course is in Cassiobury Park, Watford. The course is run mostly on tarmac paths, with the exception of the start and finish which are on grass. Some sections of the course may accumulate mud, leaves and puddles after rain. Dependent on availability, marshals will be at key sections of the course, or signs will be in place.
Please remember that the parkrun uses shared paths. For the continued success of the event, please give way to other park users. This won't hurt your time, it won't stop you from getting a PB and it will make sure everyone continues to enjoy the event.
Please, wherever possible walk, jog, cycle or use public transport when attending the event. If you do have to drive, please consider car-sharing to reduce our impact on both the environment and other park users. Please also watch out for other park users when arriving and leaving. Parking may be limited so try to arrive early.
Facilities
There are toilets at The Hub - including Changing Places facilities about 1km from the start line (towards the Gade Avenue car park and the canal) but we cannot guarantee that they will be open before parkrun starts each week.
Please note that the Cha Café is temporarily closed from August 2022 and we currently have no access to facilities there.
More details
Public transport
Underground: Watford Underground Station is served by the Metropolitan Line from Baker Street. Please check the TFL website for up-to-date train times and travel information before you leave as this is subject to change, including for engineering works at weekends. To walk or cycle from the station to the park, turn right out of the station on Cassiobury Park Avenue, then left into Shepherds Road. The Cha Café is on the right and the bandstand is ahead of you on the grass within the park. The walk is about 400 metres.
Overground/National Rail: From Watford Junction Station, it is approx a two-kilometre walk to The Cha Café in Cassiobury Park. The station is served by both London Overground trains and National Rail Services running between London Euston and Milton Keynes. To walk to the park, turn right out of the station onto Station Road, then turn left onto Rickmansworth Road (A412) and cross to the north side of the road. Continue and use the pedestrian subway to cross to the south side of the A411 (Hempstead Road) near The Avenue car park. Continue adjacent to the A412 along the shared pedestrian and cycle paths, turn right into the park, and take the left path which leads to The Cha Café and the bandstand.
Bus: The Cassiobury Park Avenue bus stop is served by various bus services on Saturdays, including the 103 from High Wycombe via Beaconsfield, Amersham and Rickmansworth; the 724 from Heathrow or Harlow; and local services from Watford Junction Train Station. Please check with Carousel and Arriva before travelling as timetables are subject to change.
On foot
The park can be accessed from Cassiobury Park Avenue/Shepherds Road, Rickmansworth Road, Parkside Drive, and Gade Avenue. The Cha Café is no more than 500 metres from any of these entrances. Cassiobury Park is situated next to the Grand Union Canal and so can easily be reached traffic-free by bike or on foot along the canal towpath - it is around 1km from the canal to the bandstand. There are bike racks available behind the Cha Café. Hire bikes are available within the park and at many locations around Watford via the Beryl Bike scheme.
By road
Parking is extremely limited around Cassiobury Park and we strongly suggest travelling by foot, bike, or public transport. Pay-and-display car parks are available at Watford Underground Station on Metropolitan Station Approach, just off Cassiobury Park Avenue, 400 metres from The Cha Café (postcode is WD18 7LE); and in the town centre, including The Avenue, which is the nearest in town. If you park on the residential roads surrounding the park, please check restrictions at the time for yourself.
Coffee
Every week we grab a post-parkrun coffee: The Tea Pavilion by Cafe in the Park, within sight of the finish line. Please come and join us!

Course safety
Cassiobury parkrun is a fun, free event organised by volunteers for the benefit of everyone. We wish to make the event as safe as possible, so participants, spectators and helpers are asked to take care about the following:
- Please be considerate to the park and other park users at all times.
- Children under the age of eleven must be accompanied (within arm's reach) throughout the event by a parent, guardian or appropriate adult of the parent's choice.
- Please arrive by foot, by pedal-power or by public transport if you can - your efforts help to reduce our impact on the park and the planet.
- We invite everyone to consider volunteering at parkrun. Your support helps your parkrun events remain sustainable and free for all in your community, and it’s also a wonderful way to improve your own health and happiness. Please visit the volunteer page for more information.
- Take care near roads and car parks – some vehicles drive very quickly. Please congregate away from the cars and be careful in particular if you have children. If you’re driving to the event, please drive carefully.
- Take care on uneven surfaces – whether on grass or on tarmac. Watch out for cyclists, other participants, pedestrians, children, dogs, wildlife, park animals, vehicles, park maintenance work, falling branches, bollards, posts and other obstacles around the course.
- Please ensure that you are fit enough to walk, jog, run 5k (3.1 miles) with us.
- If you see someone with a serious problem, please stop to help them out and get help as soon as possible.
- If you’re watching, keep clear of participants on the course, and look after any children and dogs you may have with you.
- It is not permitted to run with a pushchair and a dog at the same time.
- Lyme Disease is a bacterial infection spread to humans by infected ticks. Consider protecting yourself by wearing repellent when at parkrun events in grassy or wooded areas. See lymediseaseuk.com for further details.
- You are welcome to take part with one dog by your side, within reach at all times, on a short, handheld, non-extendable lead. The use of waist harnesses is prohibited. Please also see this Support Site entry for further details about parkrunning with dogs.
- parkrunners pushing buggies are welcome, but please take care of others around you and do your best to start at an appropriate place in the field for your pace.
We hope these tips help to ensure that Cassiobury parkrun is fun and safe for everyone.
