The course
Course description
We are currently on our summer route, a rolling (nearly) 2 lap course around the grass and stony paths of Fell Foot park, starting on the grass below the main car park, and finishing midway along the lake shore.
On the course
The course is 5k long. The course is in Fell Foot Park, Newby Bridge, Windermere. The course is run on a mixture of grass, tarmac paths and gravel paths. Some sections of the course may accumulate mud, leaves and puddles after rain. Dependent on availability, marshals will be at key sections of the course, or signs will be in place.
Please remember that the parkrun uses shared paths. For the continued success of the event, please give way to other park users. This won't hurt your time, it won't stop you from getting a PB and it will make sure everyone continues to enjoy the event.
Please, wherever possible walk, jog, cycle or use public transport when attending the event. If you do have to drive, please consider car-sharing to reduce our impact on both the environment and other park users. Please also watch out for other park users when arriving and leaving. Parking may be limited so try to arrive early.
Facilities
IMPORTANT PARKING INFORMATION
On site parking is limited to 120 spaces at this very popular parkrun. Our car parks are regularly OVERSUBSCRIBED during school and bank holidays. During busy times it can take up to 30 minutes to queue / pay for parking and get to the start.
There is no alternative parking within a safe walking distance of the park, and STRICTLY NO PARKING on the main road (A592) outside Fell Foot park. Any cars parked INSIDE OR OUTSIDE of the double yellow lines are likely to receive a penalty notice from Westmorland & Furness Council.
To avoid disappointment, PLEASE consider this when planning your visit, and please consider car sharing wherever possible.
Toilets & Changing
FREE to use male, female and disabled/accessible toilets are available both in the main car park and by the cafe. The National Trust’s Active Base Centre has PAID changing, toilet and shower facilities. Please speak directly to the National Trust staff on-site to request use of the Active Base facilities.
Playground
A free children’s play area is available.

Public transport
By bus: Public transport to Fell Foot is limited but a very early number 6 bus from Windermere/Bowness & Barrow/Ulverston runs year round and stops outside the park. Visit Stagecoach or Bus Times for the latest information.
On foot
As there is no footway on the busy A592, it is not recommended to travel to Fell Foot park on foot. A limited number of bike racks are available on site year round.
By road
Fell Foot park is on the A592, one mile north of Newby Bridge (LA12 8NN). Turn into Fell Foot park and follow the direction signs to the parking areas. If the first car park is full please continue to drive towards the exit where a second car park is situated. Please park sensibly and don't leave big gaps between vehicles.
Once parked up, National Trust members should scan their membership card at the machine to obtain their (free) parking ticket. Non-National Trust members should obtain a parking ticket by paying a donation (cash or card) to National Trust staff situated in the car park.

Course safety
Fell Foot parkrun, Newby Bridge is a fun, free event organised by volunteers for the benefit of everyone. We wish to make the event as safe as possible, so participants, spectators and helpers are asked to take care about the following:
- Please be considerate to the park and other park users at all times.
- Children under the age of eleven must be accompanied (within arm's reach) throughout the event by a parent, guardian or appropriate adult of the parent's choice.
- Please arrive by foot, by pedal-power or by public transport if you can - your efforts help to reduce our impact on the park and the planet.
- We invite everyone to consider volunteering at parkrun. Your support helps your parkrun events remain sustainable and free for all in your community, and it’s also a wonderful way to improve your own health and happiness. Please visit the volunteer page for more information.
- Take care near roads and car parks – some vehicles drive very quickly. Please congregate away from the cars and be careful in particular if you have children. If you’re driving to the event, please drive carefully.
- Take care on uneven surfaces – whether on grass or on tarmac. Watch out for cyclists, other participants, pedestrians, children, dogs, wildlife, park animals, vehicles, park maintenance work, falling branches, bollards, posts and other obstacles around the course.
- Please ensure that you are fit enough to walk, jog, run 5k (3.1 miles) with us.
- If you see someone with a serious problem, please stop to help them out and get help as soon as possible.
- If you’re watching, keep clear of participants on the course, and look after any children and dogs you may have with you.
- Lyme Disease is a bacterial infection spread to humans by infected ticks. Consider protecting yourself by wearing repellent when at parkrun events in grassy or wooded areas. See lymediseaseuk.com for further details.
- If dogs are permitted, you may participate with one by your side, within reach at all times, on a short, handheld, non-extendable lead. Please also see this Support Site entry for further details about parkrunning with dogs.
- Please note that during the winter months and in the case of adverse weather, we may need to use an alternative route which is not suitable for dogs. Please check our news page or social media for any restriction updates.
- The course may not be suitable for buggies - please contact the team in advance for further advice on the course. Please check our news page or social media for any restriction updates. Please take extreme care of other runners around you. If possible start from the back of the field and try to keep to one side of the main body of runners.
We hope these tips help to ensure that Fell Foot parkrun, Newby Bridge is fun and safe for everyone.
