The course
Course description
The course is located in the grounds of Fulbourn Hospital. The course is four laps mostly run on grass with a short stretch of concrete pathway at the start and end of each lap and a further short stretch on a tarmac roadway about half-way round. The course makes use of a steady rise and fall in the landscape on each lap and might best be described as 'gently undulating.' The final lap continues to follow the route past the start point to finish outside the Resource Centre.
Unfortunately dogs are not allowed to participate with runners or walkers at this event. The only exception to this rule is when accompanied by an assistance dog.
On the course
The course is 5k long. The course is at Fulbourn Hospital, Cambridge. The course is run on a mixture of grass, tarmac paths and concrete paths. Some sections of the course may accumulate mud, leaves and puddles after rain. Dependent on availability, marshals will be at key sections of the course, or signs will be in place.
Please remember that the parkrun uses shared paths. For the continued success of the event, please give way to other park users. This won't hurt your time, it won't stop you from getting a PB and it will make sure everyone continues to enjoy the event.
Please, wherever possible walk, jog, cycle or use public transport when attending the event. If you do have to drive, please consider car-sharing to reduce our impact on both the environment and other park users. Please also watch out for other park users when arriving and leaving. Parking may be limited so try to arrive early.
Facilities
There are toilets at the Edge cafe which is in the Resource Centre close to the finish line. We also congregate outside this Resource Centre before the run.
More details
Public transport
If arriving by train you can reach Fulbourn Hospital from Cambridge station, from there take a Citi 1 or Citi 3 bus to Fulbourn Tesco. At Tescos continue along Yarrow Road, turn left on to Cambridge Road. [Please note that not all Citi 3 services stop at Tesco, alight at Yarrow Road instead]. Citi 1 & 3 also depart from the city centre bus station.
The main entrance to the hospital will be the first road on the left. Enter the hospital via the main entrance and parkrun will be located on the right hand side of the road approx. 200 meters into the site.
It is generally cheaper to buy a Dayrider ticket than a return if you are travelling by bus from the station or city centre.
On foot
The most straightforward route from Cambridge station is to head south along Station Place past the bus stops. Turn right onto Brookgate and follow that to Hills Road. Turn left there, cross the bridge then turn left onto Cherry Hinton Road. From there, the directions are the same as in the directions by car above. The distance is just under three miles.
By road
- From Cambridge city centre, follow the A1307 south west out of the city, turning left along Cherry Hinton Road. This becomes Fulbourn Road. The hospital is on the left just after the first roundabout on Cherry Hinton Road.
- From the A14, come off at J35. Follow the A1303 towards Cambridge Airport. At the next roundabout, take the first exit onto Airport Way. After a mile and a half take the first exit at the next roundabout onto Gazelle Way. Cross the level crossing and go straight across the next roundabout by Tesco. Turn left onto Fulbourn Road and follow the directions above after that.
- From the A11, come off at the turn for Balsham and Fulbourn. Turn north west towards Fulbourn and stay on this road all the way through the village. Fulbourn Hospital is on the right just past Capital Court.
There are 53 car parking spaces (including two disabled spaces). There is no car parking charge.
Please try to arrive in plenty of time. If the car park is full, participants are welcome to park at the nearby Tesco Superstore located at Yarrow Rd, Fulbourn, Cambridge, CB1 9BF. Note that while this car park appears to be very close, the pedestrian route from there is not direct, so you may need 10-15 minutes to walk to the Resource Centre where we meet.
Coffee
Every week we grab a post-parkrun coffee: the Edge cafe which is on site close to the parkrun finish. Please come and join us!

Course safety
Fulbourn Hospital parkrun is a fun, free event organised by volunteers for the benefit of everyone. We wish to make the event as safe as possible, so participants, spectators and helpers are asked to take care about the following:
- Please be considerate to the park and other park users at all times.
- Children under the age of eleven must be accompanied (within arm's reach) throughout the event by a parent, guardian or appropriate adult of the parent's choice.
- Please arrive by foot, by pedal-power or by public transport if you can - your efforts help to reduce our impact on the park and the planet.
- We invite everyone to consider volunteering at parkrun. Your support helps your parkrun events remain sustainable and free for all in your community, and it’s also a wonderful way to improve your own health and happiness. Please visit the volunteer page for more information.
- Take care near roads and car parks – some vehicles drive very quickly. Please congregate away from the cars and be careful in particular if you have children. If you’re driving to the event, please drive carefully.
- Take care on uneven surfaces – whether on grass or on tarmac. Watch out for cyclists, other participants, pedestrians, children, dogs, wildlife, park animals, vehicles, park maintenance work, falling branches, bollards, posts and other obstacles around the course.
- Please ensure that you are fit enough to walk, jog, run 5k (3.1 miles) with us.
- If you see someone with a serious problem, please stop to help them out and get help as soon as possible.
- If you’re watching, keep clear of participants on the course, and look after any children and dogs you may have with you.
- It is not permitted to run with a pushchair and a dog at the same time.
- Lyme Disease is a bacterial infection spread to humans by infected ticks. Consider protecting yourself by wearing repellent when at parkrun events in grassy or wooded areas. See lymediseaseuk.com for further details.
- If dogs are permitted, you may participate with one by your side, within reach at all times, on a short, handheld, non-extendable lead. Please also see this Support Site entry for further details about parkrunning with dogs.
- parkrunners pushing buggies are welcome, but please take care of others around you and do your best to start at an appropriate place in the field for your pace.
- Unfortunately dogs are not allowed to participate with runners or walkers at this event. The only exception to this rule is when accompanied by an assistance dog.
We hope these tips help to ensure that Fulbourn Hospital parkrun is fun and safe for everyone.
