The course

Course description

The start and finish are in front of Tremough House. Three laps on tarmac paths going downhill and all the way along the Old Drive, turning at the end and coming back up the hill to do a loop towards the Peter Lanyon Building. At the end of the third lap, return to the finish line in front of Tremough House.

On the course

The course is 5k long. The course is at Penryn Campus, Penryn. The course is run entirely on tarmac paths with a very short stretch of packed gravel. Some sections of the course may accumulate mud, leaves and puddles after rain. Dependent on availability, marshals will be at key sections of the course, or signs will be in place.

Please remember that the parkrun uses shared paths. For the continued success of the event, please give way to other park users. This won't hurt your time, it won't stop you from getting a PB and it will make sure everyone continues to enjoy the event.

Please, wherever possible walk, jog, cycle or use public transport when attending the event. If you do have to drive, please consider car-sharing to reduce our impact on both the environment and other park users. Please also watch out for other park users when arriving and leaving. Parking may be limited so try to arrive early.

Facilities

Toilets and showers are available in the sports centre which is between the car parks and the start line.

More details

Public transport

Bus: Various buses - U1, U2, U3 and U4 - serve the campus from Falmouth, Truro, Redruth and Penzance. Check routes and times at the First Group Cornwall website.

Train: Penryn train station is on the Falmouth/Truro branch line. Half hourly services and 15 min walk to the campus.

On foot

From Penryn train station: Turn left, walk down hill, turn left at T junction and go under railway bridge. Follow the road and, after it bears right, look for the pedestrian entrance to Campus on your left. Follow the Old Drive for a long straight stretch after which it bears right and uphill towards Tremough House. 0.7 mile, approx 16 minutes.

From Bus Exchange: Go past reception and shop on your left and the high stone wall on your right and across a small open area with picnic tables. Go down a short flight of steps ahead of you and slightly to the right. Turn left at the bottom of these steps, along a path to a longer flight of steps. Go down the first half of the longer flight of steps, turning right towards Tremough House half way down. Approx 5 mins.

From car parks F-K: Head towards the sports centre and nursery. With the sport centre main entrance on your right, head for the junction of paths. Ignore the sharp right turn and the sign ahead and to the left saying 'All Pedestrians' and instead head downhill, signposted to Tremough House. At the end of the wall of the Italian Garden, turn left and the start is in front of Tremough House, ahead on your left. Approx 5 mins.

If you get lost on campus, follow signs for Tremough House.

By road

PLEASE DO NOT USE YOUR SAT NAV OR THE MAP ON THE 5k APP as both of these will direct you to an industrial estate on the south side of the campus. Instead, follow the written instructions below. You should only park in car parks F-K. The what3words location for car parks F-K is: ///variously.coping.verges. Putting the postcode in your sat nav will not get you to the right place, which is why we don’t provide one.

The Penryn Campus is off the A39 near Falmouth and is signposted from the Treliever Roundabout. Follow signs for the Campus and when you enter the Campus, drive up the hill to the mini-roundabout. Turn right at the roundabout and follow the road round to the right towards the car parks.
Pass through the barriers. You will pass through the barriers again on the way out, but you will not be charged for parking. Follow the road which goes straight and then bears round to the left. There is some parking on your left but keep going until the road crosses a lane and emerges in car parks F-K. The Sports Centre is the big grey building on your left as you drive into this parking area. Park anywhere.

After leaving your car, head towards the Sports Centre (there's a loo in there if you need a quick pit stop). With the Sport Centre main entrance on your right, look ahead for our yellow parkrun signs. Head for the junction of paths. Ignore the sharp right turn and the sign ahead and to the left saying 'All Pedestrians' and instead head downhill, signposted to Tremough House. This path bears left at the bottom of the hill, leading you to the start line which is in front of Tremough House. Approx 5 mins.

If you get lost on campus, follow signs for Tremough House.

Course safety

Penryn Campus parkrun is a fun, free event organised by volunteers for the benefit of everyone. We wish to make the event as safe as possible, so participants, spectators and helpers are asked to take care about the following:

  • Please be considerate to the park and other park users at all times.
  • Children under the age of eleven must be accompanied (within arm's reach) throughout the event by a parent, guardian or appropriate adult of the parent's choice.
  • Please arrive by foot, by pedal-power or by public transport if you can - your efforts help to reduce our impact on the park and the planet.
  • We invite everyone to consider volunteering at parkrun. Your support helps your parkrun events remain sustainable and free for all in your community, and it’s also a wonderful way to improve your own health and happiness. Please visit the volunteer page for more information.
  • Take care near roads and car parks – some vehicles drive very quickly. Please congregate away from the cars and be careful in particular if you have children. If you’re driving to the event, please drive carefully.
  • Take care on uneven surfaces – whether on grass or on tarmac. Watch out for cyclists, other participants, pedestrians, children, dogs, wildlife, park animals, vehicles, park maintenance work, falling branches, bollards, posts and other obstacles around the course.
  • Please ensure that you are fit enough to walk, jog, run 5k (3.1 miles) with us.
  • If you see someone with a serious problem, please stop to help them out and get help as soon as possible.
  • If you’re watching, keep clear of participants on the course, and look after any children and dogs you may have with you.
  • It is not permitted to run with a pushchair and a dog at the same time.
  • Lyme Disease is a bacterial infection spread to humans by infected ticks. Consider protecting yourself by wearing repellent when at parkrun events in grassy or wooded areas. See lymediseaseuk.com for further details.
  • You are welcome to take part with one dog by your side, within reach at all times, on a short, handheld, non-extendable lead. The use of waist harnesses is prohibited. Please also see this Support Site entry for further details about parkrunning with dogs.
  • parkrunners pushing buggies are welcome, but please take care of others around you and do your best to start at an appropriate place in the field for your pace.

We hope these tips help to ensure that Penryn Campus parkrun is fun and safe for everyone.
