The course
Course description
The course passes through lush bush reserve, on predominantly flat, firm grass pathways. There are four legs. Leg 1 is a short 500m loop on the only section of concrete pathway, followed by 500m down the main grass driveway. Leg 2 is a 1km grass loop that leads onto Leg 3, an out & back along a well covered bush trail (~700m each way). Leg 4 passes through another 1km of bush reserve, alongside the back paddock & then returns to the main drive & on to the finish (~600m). Participants pass through seven farm gates, all of which will be opened prior to the start, and an array of birdlife and cows will be easily visible from many points on the course.
Unfortunately dogs are not allowed at this event. This is a nature reserve with flora and fauna that need to be protected.
On the course
The course is 5k long. The course is at Pioneer Dairy, Tuggerah. The course is run on a mixture of grass and concrete paths. Some sections of the course may accumulate mud, leaves and puddles after rain. Dependent on availability, marshals will be at key sections of the course, or signs will be in place.
Please remember that the parkrun uses shared paths. For the continued success of the event, please give way to other park users. This won't hurt your time, it won't stop you from getting a PB and it will make sure everyone continues to enjoy the event.
Please, wherever possible walk, jog, cycle or use public transport when attending the event. If you do have to drive, please consider car-sharing to reduce our impact on both the environment and other park users. Please also watch out for other park users when arriving and leaving. Parking may be limited so try to arrive early.
Facilities
Toilets are located in the on-site function centre (adjacent to the start/finish area). Several wooden seated picnic tables are also available for use, located under a large wooden shelter.
More details
Public transport
This venue currently lies roughly halfway between Tuggerah & Wyong station (around 2km from the start/finish area). As such, coming by train does not greatly improve access.
Whilst a bus service does stop near the start of South Tacoma Road, the long driveway into Pioneer Dairy, Central Coast Wetlands would mean walking or running approximately 1km to reach the start/finish area (down a long driveway being used by cars). As such, car access is recommended, although bicycle access is another good option.
On foot
There is currently only one way into Pioneer Dairy, Central Coast Wetlands, via South Tacoma Road & the long driveway from the front gate (which cars would be using). As such, foot access would mean walking or running between 1-3kms, depending on whether a person was coming from home (e.g. Mardi or Wyong), or using public transport. For this reason, As such, car access is recommended, although bicycle access is another good option.
By road
The only point of access is by a right turn off South Tacoma Road.
If approaching from TUGGERAH or MARDI, proceed to the end of “Tuggerah Straight” (Pacific Highway) but DO NOT cross the Wyong River bridge. Instead, after passing Red Rooster, veer left onto the side road adjacent to the car dealerships (the start of South Tacoma Road). Drive straight for 150 metres & bend hard right & follow the road under the road & railway bridges. The entrance to Pioneer Dairy, Central Coast Wetlands is 100 metres up the next rise & is signposted. Turn right & drive 700m down the driveway to the car park.
If approaching from WYONG, drive towards Tuggerah & over the Wyong River bridge. Once on the Tuggerah side, look for the first right hand turn, which is signposted to South Tacoma. This turns you on to the start of South Tacoma Road. Drive straight for 150 metres & bend hard right & follow the road under the road & railway bridges. The entrance to Pioneer Dairy ,Central Coast Wetlands is 100 metres up the next rise & is signposted. Turn right & drive 700m down the driveway to the car park.
Existing, marked car parking bays exist for approximately 75 cars. Should this number be exceeded, alternative parking will be identified in areas surrounding the Old Dairy Cottage.

Course safety
Pioneer Dairy parkrun is a fun, free event organised by volunteers for the benefit of everyone. We wish to make the event as safe as possible, so participants, spectators and helpers are asked to take care about the following:
- Please be considerate to the park and other park users at all times.
- Children under the age of eleven must be accompanied (within arm's reach) throughout the event by a parent, guardian or appropriate adult of the parent's choice.
- Please arrive by foot, by pedal-power or by public transport if you can - your efforts help to reduce our impact on the park and the planet.
- We invite everyone to consider volunteering at parkrun. Your support helps your parkrun events remain sustainable and free for all in your community, and it’s also a wonderful way to improve your own health and happiness. Please visit the volunteer page for more information.
- Take care near roads and car parks – some vehicles drive very quickly. Please congregate away from the cars and be careful in particular if you have children. If you’re driving to the event, please drive carefully.
- Take care on uneven surfaces – whether on grass or on tarmac. Watch out for cyclists, other participants, pedestrians, children, dogs, wildlife, park animals, vehicles, park maintenance work, falling branches, bollards, posts and other obstacles around the course.
- Please ensure that you are fit enough to walk, jog, run 5k (3.1 miles) with us.
- If you see someone with a serious problem, please stop to help them out and get help as soon as possible.
- If you’re watching, keep clear of participants on the course, and look after any children and dogs you may have with you.
- Unfortunately dogs are not allowed at this event.
The only exception to this rule is when accompanied by an assistance dog. - parkrunners pushing buggies are welcome, but please take care of others around you and do your best to start at an appropriate place in the field for your pace.
We hope these tips help to ensure that Pioneer Dairy parkrun is fun and safe for everyone.
