The course

Course description

The gathering and briefing area is in the south-west corner of the football field, close to the finish. After the briefing the Run Director will walk you to the start.

The course consists of one small anti-clockwise lap of the football field followed by two large clockwise laps of Stockley Country Park. The laps of the Country Park start with a climb up the hill followed by a descent towards the "A" framed bridge across the Stockley Road. Just before the bridge you turn right and then bear left to avoid the golf tee. Follow this path for one kilometre, keeping to the right at any forks, until you are heading north. There are then two left forks the first of which should be clearly signed. You are then back at the football field and complete the lap by repeating the path taken on the short lap and then turn right to undertake your second lap of the Country Park. After you have completed your second lap of the Country Park go straight on at the junction then turn left and pass where the start was, and continue to the finish in the football field.

The course is mostly on compacted earth and gravel paths though with one stretch on road surface, and the finish is on grass. Being a multi-lap course fast runners may overtake slower participants. The path is narrow in places so take care. As a general rule keep to the right and pass to the left.

For those familiar with what3word addressing the gathering point is near ///cake.enjoyable.chew and the start is at ///twig.insist.hills.

On the course

The course is 5k long. The course is at Stockley Country Park, Yiewsley. The course is run entirely on trail paths. Some sections of the course may accumulate mud, leaves and puddles after rain. Dependent on availability, marshals will be at key sections of the course, or signs will be in place.

Please remember that the parkrun uses shared paths. For the continued success of the event, please give way to other park users. This won't hurt your time, it won't stop you from getting a PB and it will make sure everyone continues to enjoy the event.

Please, wherever possible walk, jog, cycle or use public transport when attending the event. If you do have to drive, please consider car-sharing to reduce our impact on both the environment and other park users. Please also watch out for other park users when arriving and leaving. Parking may be limited so try to arrive early.

Facilities

There are no toilets available at or near the course. There are toilets within West Drayton Station and at the Tesco Superstore in West Drayton High Street (UB7 7FP). Tesco is open from 7am.

There is a children's playground next to the carpark. Note that from the playground you cannot see any part of the course including the start or finish.

More details

Public transport

Bus: Services U1 (West Drayton / Uxbridge / Ruislip), U3 (Heathrow Central / West Drayton / Uxbridge) and U5 (Hayes Town / West Drayton / Uxbridge) serve the "Apple Tree Avenue" bus stops in Falling Lane, 300m from the car park. Walk down Chestnut Avenue from the Apple Tree Roundabout near the bus stop.

Services 350 (Heathrow T5 / West Drayton / Hayes Town), A10 (Heathrow Central / Uxbridge) and U5 (Hayes Town / West Drayton / Uxbridge) serve the "Iron Bridge Road" bus stops in Horton Road, 800m from the start / finish area. Enter into the park next to the north side bus stop, turn left and follow the last 800m of the course (this should be signed, unless you are early).

Train: The nearest underground station is "Heathrow 1, 2 and 3" but you can also arrive at "Uxbridge" on the Metropolitan line or at "West Drayton" or "Hayes and Harlington" on National Rail or the Elizabeth Line. Use the buses listed above from the stations. You could walk the 1.5km from West Drayton Station.

On foot

The start / finish area is under 2km away from much of West Drayton, Cowley, Colham Green and Hayes End.

By road

The whole park and areas around it are within the London Ultra Low Exhaust Zone (ULEZ).

The carpark has postcode UB7 8BU and w3w: ///heap.cake.most.

Do not follow signs to "Stockley Park" which is a business centre beyond the far side of the course. Please do not use the small carpark off the Stockley Road / Park View Road roundabout - this should be reserved for other park users including dog walkers. The event carpark is a dedicated tarmac carpark at the end of Chestnut Avenue, off Apple Tree Roundabout on Falling Lane. For those who know the area this is about a kilometre south of Hillingdon Hospital and can be reached via the A4020 Uxbridge Road or the A408 Cowley/West Drayton High Road, or head north from Junction 4 of the M4. Some Sat Navs may show the carpark as "Temporarily Closed". That is because it is only open for the parkrun. The entrance to the carpark is height limited. It has been measured at 195cm but the ramp in has a slope to it, so it might allow less headroom than 195cm.

The carpark is open from about 8am and there is no charge for use. It has up to 100 spaces so should be adequately large enough for the numbers expected at this event, especially if you carshare when possible. If you arrive before 8am, or if the carpark is full, then parking in the local roads is also possible but please be considerate towards those who live here. The carpark has to be cleared by 10:30 at the latest, and it will be locked. If you want to remain in the area for longer please repark your car in the street after the parkrun.

Course safety

Stockley Country parkrun is a fun, free event organised by volunteers for the benefit of everyone. We wish to make the event as safe as possible, so participants, spectators and helpers are asked to take care about the following:

  • Please be considerate to the park and other park users at all times.
  • Children under the age of eleven must be accompanied (within arm's reach) throughout the event by a parent, guardian or appropriate adult of the parent's choice.
  • Please arrive by foot, by pedal-power or by public transport if you can - your efforts help to reduce our impact on the park and the planet.
  • We invite everyone to consider volunteering at parkrun. Your support helps your parkrun events remain sustainable and free for all in your community, and it’s also a wonderful way to improve your own health and happiness. Please visit the volunteer page for more information.
  • Take care near roads and car parks – some vehicles drive very quickly. Please congregate away from the cars and be careful in particular if you have children. If you’re driving to the event, please drive carefully.
  • Take care on uneven surfaces – whether on grass or on tarmac. Watch out for cyclists, other participants, pedestrians, children, dogs, wildlife, park animals, vehicles, park maintenance work, falling branches, bollards, posts and other obstacles around the course.
  • Please ensure that you are fit enough to walk, jog, run 5k (3.1 miles) with us.
  • If you see someone with a serious problem, please stop to help them out and get help as soon as possible.
  • If you’re watching, keep clear of participants on the course, and look after any children and dogs you may have with you.
  • It is not permitted to run with a pushchair and a dog at the same time.
  • Lyme Disease is a bacterial infection spread to humans by infected ticks. Consider protecting yourself by wearing repellent when at parkrun events in grassy or wooded areas. See lymediseaseuk.com for further details.
  • You are welcome to take part with one dog by your side, within reach at all times, on a short, handheld, non-extendable lead. The use of waist harnesses is prohibited. Please also see this Support Site entry for further details about parkrunning with dogs.
  • parkrunners pushing buggies are welcome, but please take care of others around you and do your best to start at an appropriate place in the field for your pace.

We hope these tips help to ensure that Stockley Country parkrun is fun and safe for everyone.
