What is the We Were Here parkrun challenge?
We Were Here is a parkrun challenge with a little bit of history attached. It recognises participants who previously finished at an event that no longer operates or is no longer open to the general public. You don't need to have known the venue would close when you visited; an old result can qualify retrospectively. Only one recorded finish at an eligible historical event is needed. It's a different kind of tourism achievement because you can't simply plan a trip to tick it off today. The result is a reminder that parkrun locations, like the communities around them, sometimes change over time.
- Each fresh event list is compared with the previous one. An event that was listed and is then missing is treated as closed.
- The result counts when that event name is no longer in the current directory.
- One such finish is enough.
- No events have left the directory since comparisons started. The list fills in when a later refresh drops an event.
- Events that closed before these comparisons started are not included yet.
